The St. Cloud State Baseball team came into last weekend ranked 2nd in the nation with a record of 24-2. This weekend, they helped their case as one of the best teams in the nation. Friday, they hosted Wayne State College at Joe Faber Field for their home opener. Garrett Harrison pitched 6 innings, allowing 3 hits and earning 7 strikeouts. Michael Jurgella continued his strong season, belting a 3-run homerun and the Huskies would take game 1. In Game 2, Sheldon Miks would take the mound and would earn a complete game 2-hit shutout, striking out 8 batters. That, coupled with an Eric Loxtercamp home run would give the huskies a 5-0 win.

Saturday, the bats came out hot for the Huskies as they would belt out 18 runs, including a Zak Hoffman homer and 3 runs a piece by him, Brandon Arnold and Karl Sorenson. Wayne State would get the first run of the game and their only run on a Nathan Ackerman home run. The finale on Saturday would prove to be much tougher as it was a back and forth game that ended up going to extra innings. The Huskies would take a 2-0 lead on a Zach Hoffman homerun, but Wayne would take the lead in the 7th. The Huskies would tie it in the 9th inning though as Kyle Lieser would score Jackson Goplen. The game would go into extra innings where Zach Hoffman would hit a double to score Micheal Jurgella. Huskies win in a walk off 4-3 to complete the weekend sweep.
