Husky Grapplers Back To The Grind For Another Season On The Mat

The St. Cloud State University wrestling team is ready for yet another season under the lights of Halenbeck Hall as the Black and Red Classic is slated for November 6.

However, the team has been going after the weights and constantly drilling since school began in September.

19 new faces walked into the wrestling room this September with goals of improving last year's 6th place finish at the National Championships last March. The finish is the lowest Head Coach Steve Costanzo and his crew have seen on the national stage since placing 7th in 2010.

Falling short of the coveted 1st place accolade has not only sparked returning wrestlers but new faces also. Tim Prescott, a JUCO transfer from Neosho County Community College describes the reasons why he picked St. Cloud and how his goals match the Huskies way of wrestling.

Ending his career as a Husky this year will be senior captain and Missouri native Josh Howk. Howk has been an asset to the dual team the last couple of years but has much more planned for his last year on the mat as he tells Broadcast/Social Media Coordinator of Husky Wrestling John O. Peterson.

The Huskies will start off the regular slate November 8 as they travel to the Harold Nichols/Cyclone Open in Ames, Iowa. The annual Black and Red scrimmage dual will be two days before in Halenbeck Hall.

All of the duals will be broadcasted live on the KVSC Sports Stream.
