The #5 Husky Wrestling team will open the 2013-2014 dual season Thursday night in Halenbeck Hall as they take on cross town rivals and Division III standouts the St. John's Johnnies.

The Huskies will look to break the NCAA Division II dual record for most consecutive dual wins. They currently share the record of 47 consecutive duals wins with Pittsburgh-Johnstown who remained undefeated from 1993 to 1996.

The Huskies' dual streak dates back to January 30, 2011 when they defeated Minnesota State Moorhead 38-3. Since then, Head Coach Steve Costanzo and his crew have completed two consecutive perfect 21-0 dual seasons including 3 Super Region 3 titles, 2 NSIC Conference titles, 2 NWCA National Dual Titles, and 3 NCAA DII Team Runner-Up honors. Last season, the Huskies also became the first team in NSIC history to win 8 conference duals in one season.

Individually, the Huskies have crowned 19 All-Americans including 3 National Champions. John Sundgren at 157 in 2011, Derek Skala at 184 in 2012, and Shamus O'Grady at 184 in 2013.

Currently the Huskies stand number 5 in the latest NCAA Wrestling Coaches polls. Four wrestlers have also gained individual rankings. Andy Pokorny at 133 is currently ranked #2, Matt Nelson at 141 is also #2, Clint Poster at 157 is ranked #4, and Gabe Fogarty at 165 is also ranked #4.

Action begins at 7:00 in Halenbeck Hall, listen on the KVSC Sports Stream by clicking here. Listen to an interview with SCSU head coach Steve Costanzo here.

John Peterson also chatted with the head coach of the Pittsburgh-Johnstown Mountain Cats, Pat Pecora. Pat reminisces about the streak he and his team started back in 1993, and it's finish in 1996.
