Jordan Smith Drafted in 9th Round
06/08/2011 - 8:00 AM
Day two of the 2011 Major League Baseball Entry Draft saw a familiar face to St. Cloud fans get picked as St. Cloud State third baseman Jordan Smith went to Cleveland in the 9th round on Tuesday.
The Willmar native was the 278th overall pick and is the second highest pick SCSU player in team history. Dana Kiecker still is the highest pick ever as he was drafted in the 8th round by Boston in 1983.
Smith had a season to remember for the Huskies as he was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year. He led SCSU with a .382 batting average, 22 doubles, seven home runs and 57 runs-batted-in.
If Smith signs with Cleveland, he will report to their rookie league team and start his professional career. KVSC Sports will keep you updated with all the MLB draft news. Day three of the draft is Wednesday with rounds 31 through 50 taking place.
