Listen to SCSU Hockey from the Final Five

St. Cloud State’s men’s hockey team rounded out a successful 2012-2013 home campaign with a sweep over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in the first round of the WCHA playoffs over the weekend. The #1 seed SCSU won 6-1 on Friday night before finishing off the #12 seed Seawolves 5-1 on Saturday. Following Saturday’s victory the Huskies were presented the MacNaughton Cup, the trophy that’s awarded to the Western Collegiate Hockey Team regular season champions. It is the first time in school history that SCSU won the award. The Huskies share the trophy with the University of Minnesota, who also finished the season with 37 conference points.

Thanks to the sweep of the Seawolves, the St. Cloud State University men’s hockey team will head to St. Paul for the second consecutive year to compete in the WCHA Final Five. It will be the Huskies last appearance at the event before departing to the NCHC next season. St. Cloud will play in the 2:07 p.m. semi-final game on Friday afternoon. The Huskies will take on the winner of the quarterfinal game between Minnesota State and Wisconsin that takes place on Thursday afternoon.

The WCHA Final Fives takes place at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul and the KVSC Sports Department will be there too provide live coverage. Tune in to 88.1 FM or listen online at 1:30 Friday afternoon for the pregame show to get you ready for puck drop at 2:07. If the Huskies win on Friday afternoon they will advance to the Championship game on Saturday night. SCSU is currently 12th in the PairWise, which is on the bubble for a NCAA tournament bid.
