The St Cloud State men's hockey team opened NCHC conference play by sweeping Miami-Ohio University over the weekend. On Friday, the Huskies never trailed in their 3-0 victory over the Redhawks. Freshman Patrick Newell earned his first collegiate points with two goals in the win. St Cloud’s defense was superb allowing just 15 shots on net with junior goaltender Charlie Lindgren posting his fourth shutout of the season.

Miami netted the first goal on Saturday night and held a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. However, St Cloud rallied back with three goals in the second period with goals by freshman Mikey Eyssimont, sophomore Patrick Russell and senior Kallie Kossila. Charlie Lindgren was once again rock soilid, making 33 saves in the 3-1 win.

With the wins, St Cloud is 6-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. After the sweep St Cloud is ranked tenth in the latest national polls. SCSU is off this weekend.
