NCAA Runner-Ups Again

For the third consecutive season the SCSU wrestling team has placed second at the Division II National Championships. This year’s tournament was held in Birmingham, Alabama and the Huskies sent a record nine participants.

Shamus O’Grady won an individual title with a 12-2 win over Ouachita Baptist’s Dallas Smith in the 184-pound class. Andy Pokorny and Jacob D. Horn also participated in championship matches, both placed second.

The Huskies Jacob Kahnke capped off his career in the cardinal, black and white with a third place finish in the 285-pound class. Clint Poster, redshirt freshman, finished fourth at 157 pounds, Matt Nelson finished fifth at 141-pounds and freshmen Gabe Fogarty finished seventh in the 165 pound class, for complete results from the event click here.

The Huskies finished with a school best 104 points in the Championship just four points behind the champions, Nebraska-Kearney who earned the title with 108 points.
