The St. Cloud State Baseball team was in action over the weekend as they were Joe Faber Field looking to defend their #2 in the country ranking. They would play host to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs. The first game on Friday was one for the bats as there would be a combined 6 home runs in the game, including 2 by SCSU by Mike Jurgella and Kyle Leiser. The Mustangs would jump out to a quick 4-1 lead in the top of the 3rd inning, only to have the Huskies respond with 6 of their own in the bottom of the 4th. In the top of the 5th inning, the Mustangs would add 3 more runs to tie the game at 7. Both teams would get 2 runs in the 6th and in the top of the 7th and final inning, the Mustangs would score 4 runs off Nick Denny and the Huskies suffer just their third loss of the season, 13-9.

In game 2 on Saturday, the tables turned as it had less fireworks, but still fireworks aplenty. SCSU would jump out to a quick 1-0 lead as Eric Loxtercamp would reach on an error. In the 3rd and 4th innings, Southwest would respond with 2 runs in each, but then the Husky bats came alive in the bottom of the 5th as they would score 5 and cruise to the win, 6-4, despite being outhit by Southwest.

Sunday's affairs were nothing like Saturday's in the fact that the games were moved early due to the threat of inclimate weather. Someone may have wanted to tell Southwest that as the Huskies were able to pile up 33 hits and 16 runs including a grand slam by Eric Loxtercamp. Huskies pick up 2 more wins, 12-0 and 14-6 to improve to 33-3 on the season.
