The State of Hockey features a lot of great rivalries but this weekend may have featured the best of them all. St. Cloud State and Minnesota skated to a split this weekend with the home team winning both matchups.

Friday featured the best crowd of the year at the National Hockey Center as there was not a seat to be had when the puck dropped at 7:37. It took alomst 15 minutes for the first goal to be scored but when Jonny Brodzinski delivered a perfect pass to Kalle Kossila the scoring opened up for the Huskies. The first period ended with a David Morley rebound goal to push the Huskies lead to 2-0 at the end of the first period and the Huskies would never look back. SCSU got goals from Jonny Brodzinski and Joey Benik to close out the 4-1 win over the top ranked Gophers.

Saturday was a different story as Minnesota came out and played much better at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. The first period featured the Gophers dominating SCSU in the shots department but the game was still scoreless after the first period. After both teams went back and forth in the game, overtime came and the Gophers took advantage by netting the game winning goal just a couple of minutes into overtime.

The Huskies move to 3-3 on the young season and will play Minnesota-Duluth this weekend in a series at the National Hockey Center.
