SCSU Men's Hockey Sweeps Omaha, Advances to Frozen Faceoff
SCSU Advances to the Frozen Faceoff

For the first time in the history of the NCHC, St. Cloud State will be participating in the Frozen Faceoff. After being upset last year by Miami, the Huskies were able to make it to the Target Center this year by pulling off an upset of their own. After being given the 6th seed in the NCHC Tournament, they traveled to the 3rd-seeded Omaha to take on the Mavericks, whom they swept at home this season.  David Morley would score both goals on Friday for the Huskies, who won in double overtime, 2-1. Austin Ortega would chip in the lone goal for the Mavericks, shorthanded. Charlie Lindgren was strong in net, stopping 45 shots, including 16 in the overtime periods.  It was their first double overtime win since they beat Northern Michigan back in 2010, 4-3 and their first multiple overtime game since falling to Duluth 3-2 in 3 OT's.

On Saturday, the Huskies would get the scoring started early again with a Power Play goal from Morley off a redirected Ben Storm shot. In the 2nd period, Senior Joey Rehkamp would find Nick Oliver in front of the net and bank it home in front of Kirk Thompson. Omaha would attempt a comeback bid with Grant Gallo scoring on the Power Play with 3:15 left to go in the game, but Joey Benik would score just 40 seconds later and that would seal the deal. Huskies sweep the Mavericks, 2-1 and 3-1. The Huskies will move on to the Target Center of Friday to play the University of North Dakota. They will also play on Saturday, but who they will play is to be decided.
