The St. Cloud State men’s basketball team fell in the NSIC opener on the road against UMD by a final of 68-66.

It was a close game all the way through with neither team leading by more than six points at any time during the contest.

So it is only fitting that it would come down to the wire and that for the final four minutes of play neither team would gain a two possession lead.

The Huskies held a 66-65 lead with 1:12 to go in the game before Pierre Newton tied things up with a free throw 15 seconds later

Neither team would score again until Newton banked in a layup with 9 seconds to go to clinch the win for the Bulldogs.

Gage Davis recorded a double-double for the Huskies with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Scottie Stone tallied a team high 19 points on 40% shooting.

With the loss the Huskies are now 2-4 on the year and 0-1 in NSIC play. They return to Halenbeck Hall this weekend to take on Bemidji State on Friday and Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday.
