Support Husky Athletic Meeting Tonight
08/30/2010 - 11:45 AM
With tonight’s Support Husky Athletics informal meeting, the public should have a better idea about the future of the St. Cloud State football team and SCSU Husky athletics. The meeting is taking place tonight at the St. Cloud Holiday Inn at 7 P.M. in the Twins room. All supporters of Husky athletics are encouraged.
The Athletic department is facing a $500,000 shortfall in their financial budget for the 2012 school year and tonight’s session will help give a clearer picture on how they intended to solve the issue. Three proposals have been made to help solve the budget issues, and two involved cutting SCSU football and the third consisted of keeping football and cutting eight other sports.
Numbers from the 2008-09 athletic budgets were released Sunday in the St. Cloud Times. According to reports, SCSU Football lost over $823,000 that year. This number was second to women’s hockey, which lost over $886,000, but the article stated it was “Legally, it's not possible to drop women's hockey,” according to SCSU President Earl Potter III.
