This weekend SCSU will invade the state of Alabama as the #1 ranked SCSU wrestling team sends nine individuals to compete in the NCAA Championships. The Division II National Championship takes place in Birmingham. Those nine wrestlers will each earn points as they advance through the tournament. Those points determine the overall national championship status for the SCSU wrestling team. SCSU has finished as the National runner up the last two seasons. The KVSC Sports Department will provide coverage of the National Championship matches this weekend on the Sports Stream.
Also in Birmingham this weekend will be the SCSU Men's and Women's Swimming and Dive teams. A total of 15 Swimmers have qualified and been invited to the 2013 NCAA Winter Championships. The Huskies Men's and Women's teams both won the inaugural NSIC Conference Championships. SCSU’s Kellyn Craig was named NSIC swimmer of the meet, Head Coach Jeff Hegle Coach of the Year and Tracy Torgerson Diving Coach of the Year. The Women are sending 10 swimmers to Alabama while the men will send a total of five.
George Kawalawu, a junior at SCSU and a member of the SCSU track team will represent St. Cloud State at the National Track and Field Championships in Alabama. Kawalawu will compete in the 60-meter dash on Friday. If he cracks the top 8 he will race again on Saturday. SCSU will send a total of 25 athletes to the Yellowhammer State this weekend for the NCAA Division II Winter Championships
