Warning's Late Goal Leads #3 Minnesota to Sweep of SCSU Men's Hockey
01/29/2012 - 5:00 AM
Sam Warning's goal with only 1:19 remaining in regulation time gave the #3 Golden Gophers a 3-2 win, and series sweep over the St. Cloud State Men's Hockey team Saturday from National Hockey Center. Minnesota captured a pair of one-goal wins after topping the Huskies Friday, 2-1, from Mariucci Arena.
Warning's goal came on a three-on-two rush for Minnesota and the forward collected the pass on the ride side of the ice and blasted a shot past SCSU's Ryan Faragher to stun the SCSU fans. Ben Hanowski scored both goals in the game for the Huskies, and had the lone tally in Friday's loss.
The Huskies were aided by the return of Mike Lee in goal. The junior captain took the loss but played well in Friday's game. However, with SCSU already depleted at forward, the Huskies were without the services of Travis Novak Saturday after he injured his leg in Friday's game. He will be reevaluated this week.
The Huskies now sit in ninth place in the WCHA at 10-14-3 overall, and 7-10-3 in the conference. The squad is back in action this weekend with a series against the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison.
Our own Zack Fisch and Dave Overlund will have the call from the Kohl Center. Friday's game is at 7:07 and Saturday's puck drop is slated for 8:07. Pregame coverage starts 37 minutes prior each night. Follow us on Twitter for updates throughout the week on SCSU Hockey.
