The St. Cloud State women’s basketball team will be returning home after a disappointing weekend. The team lost both matchups by a combined total of seven points. Their overall record after now stands at 14-6 with a 10-6 conference record. The Huskies currently hold the second spot in the NSIC North standings.
On Friday against Wayne State Jessica Benson was a beast. She had 16 points, 2 blocks and a steal. She was the only Husky to be in double digit scoring for the game. Wayne State would have four players go over the ten-point mark including Ashton Yossi who notched 21 points. The Huskies scored 43 points in the second half but in the end it wasn’t enough as they lost 69-65.
Saturday it was two different ladies taking charge for the Huskies. Three-point sensation Sam Price scored 16 points while Lexy Petermann went 7 of 10 on the floor, scoring 15 against Augustana. The Huskies however were outscored by eight points in the second half (32-24) and the Vikings went on to win 60-57 and improve their record to 16-4 12-4 in the NSIC.
The Huskies have a critical matchup Friday against Winona State who holds a 16-7 record. They then will face Upper Iowa on Saturday as they look to continue their resurgence to the top of the NSIC north where Northern State currently sits. The Huskies will have another chance to edge out a victory against Northern State on February 16 at home, their last of a four game home stand and a game that will air on 88.1 FM KVSC.
