Women's Hockey Splits with Badgers
01/25/2010 - 1:00 AM
Friday afternoon the Huskies fell behind early as the 7th ranked Badgers scored two goals in the first six minutes as Geena Prough and Mallory Deluce lit the lamp for Wisconsin. The Huskies would battle back to within a goal but the Badgers’ Carolyn Prevost matched SCSU goal for goal as she had her first hat trick of the season. Saturday’s game saw the Huskies fall behind early but this time they were able to come back. The Huskies took a 3-2 lead going into the third period but Wisconsin’s Brianna Decker took advantage of a Husky turnover and tied the game up with her eighth goal of the season halfway through the third. The crowd at the Kohl Center thought overtime was on the horizon but SCSU senior forward Meaghan Pezon put a forehand wrister top shelf to give the Huskies the lead 4-3 with less than five minutes left. That score would stand as the final. Husky goaltender Ashley Nixon made 65 saves in the two games to pace Saint Cloud between the pipes.
SCSU is now 10-11-5 overall and 7-10-3-2 in the WCHA. The Huskies will be at home this weekend to take on the Bemidji State Beavers. Faceoff on Friday is 7:07 p.m. with the puck dropping Saturday at 2:07 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on 88.1 FM KVSC.
