Men's Tennis Sees Win Streak Snapped

 The SCSU men's tennis team saw their five-match win streak end on Saturday with a 9-0 loss at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. 

The Huskies are now 13-5 on the season and are back in action on April 14th for a pair of matches in Sioux Falls, SD.

Huskies Earn Split With Game 2 Win

The #8-ranked SCSU baseball team bounced back from a game one loss and defeated Winona State 11-8 to finish the team's first of two road doubleheaders this weekend. 

Steve Rindelaub, Joey Benke and Travis Cariveau all homered for the Huskies in the win. Logan Birr earned the victory on the mound and ran his record to 5-0 this season.

Women's Tennis Shuts Out Bemidji State

The SCSU women's tennis team recorded their second straight shutout with a 9-0 win Saturday morning against the Beavers of Bemidji State in Sartell. The Huskies defeated the University of MN-Crookston 9-0 on Friday night. 

 The Huskies improve to 12-10 overall this season with the win and are currently 5-1 in the NSIC. The team is back in action on Saturday evening for a date with Winona State.

Huskies Drop NSIC Opener at Winona State

 The #8-ranked St. Cloud State baseball team dropped its first NSIC game of the season on Saturday afternoon in Winona, MN. The Huskies were defeated by a final score of 5-3 by Winona State

Winona State scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning (seven inning game) to take the victory. Sean Borman led SCSU with three doubles and two runs batted in. 

The Huskies and Winona State will do battle three more times before the weekend is through.

SCSU Football Announces Additional Commitments

The SCSU football team announced the signing of Adam Josephson of Minneota, MN. Josephson is the team's eight signing of the year.

Previous players to sign a letter of intent include quarterback Hunter Darger (Waunakee, WI), defensive linemen Garrett Eide (Blair, WI) and Eric Johnson (Elkhorn, WI), linebackers Tommy Fruehe (Appleton, WI) and Nathan Holasek (Chanhassen, MN), defensive back Jovonte Suber (St. Louis, MO) and kicker Gus Utech (Marshfield, WI).

SCSU Women's Tennis Squad Shines In Sartell

 The St. Cloud State women's tennis team shut out Minnesota-Crookston 9-0 in a home match at Sartell on Friday. The win improves the Huskies record to 11-10 overall and 4-1 in NSIC play. 

The Huskies are back in action on Saturday morning with a pair of matches on the schedule. At 10:00 am SCSU will take on Bemidji State before a 7:30 pm matchup with Winona State.

Men's Hockey Gets Verbal Commitment from Mitsunaga

At only 16 years old, Kyle Mitsunaga has taken a big step towards his future. The defenseman from Boise, Idaho has given a verbal commitment to play college hockey at St. Cloud State.

The 5-foot-11, 180 pound Mitsunaga is currently playing for the L.A. Selects in California. He was scouted by SCSU assistant coach Mike Gibbons earlier this year. In 40 games this season, Mitsunaga has 16 goals and 20 assists. He can also play forward as well. His coach for the Selects is former SCSU forward Sandy Gasseau, who played for the Huskies from 1991-95.

Mitsunaga will be a high school senior next year, and hopes to be drafted into the USHL next season.

SCSU Softball Splits with Minot

The St. Cloud State softball team had to deal with not only the rain, but Minot State this past Thursday. In a doubleheader originally scheduled to be played in St. Cloud on Wednesday, the Huskies went to the dome in Vadnais Heights and split with Minot, losing 7-1 and winning 2-0.

SCSU was lead in game two by an RBI double from Kelly Olson, and junior Danielle Rahn had a solo home run as well. Kelly Franks was the winning pitcher with the shutout for SCSU.

SCSU is now 14-12 on the season.

Men's Tennis Downs KWU

The SCSU men's tennis team improved their record to 13-4 this season with a 9-0 win over Kansas Wesleyan on Thursday in Sartell, MN. 

The Huskies win was their fifth straight, and was also the fifth shutout of the season for the squad. 

Joao Orsi and Jordan Peterson are tied for the team lead with ten wins apiece. The team is back in action Saturday in St. Peter, MN.

Lumberjacks a Win Away From Trip to Chicago

The St. Cloud State Men's Hockey team might not be making a trip to the Frozen Four this year, but Central Minnesota's junior hockey league team is only one win away from advancing to the final four of it's league. The Granite City Lumberjacks beat the North Iowa Bulls last night 2-1 in overtime to a take a 1-0 series lead in the West Division Championship series. If the Jacks win at 7:30 tonight, they take the best of three series and advance to the NA3HL Cup Tournament next weekend in Chicago.

Granite City got goals from Trevor Ness on the powerplay earlier in the third period, and Riley Bengtson scored the game winner in the overtime period on a rebound in front. Matt Grove made several fantastic saves in the goal for the Jacks.

Game two of the series is tonight at Sports Arena East in Sauk Rapids. If a game three is needed, it will take place at 5 pm on Sunday.

Huskies Win, Tie With Augustana in Dome Finale

 St. Cloud State's nationally ranked baseball team took down Augustana 8-1 in game one of a doubleheader, then saw game two halted due to time constraints with the score tied 8-8.  Game two will be resumed in early May when the Vikings visit Joe Faber Field. 

The second game was stopped due to a time limit for teams renting out the Metrodome. The rest of the SCSU schedule is to be played outdoors.

The Huskies' NSIC season begins this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders at Winona State. Winona State ended the Huskies 2011 season with a rain-soaked, 10-inning win at Dick Putz Field in the central regional.

Wrestling Coach Costanzo Named Coach of Year

 St. Cloud State University wrestling coach Steve Costanzo has been named the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

St. Cloud State enjoyed one of its best seasons in team history, placing second in the nation for the second straight year at the 2012 NCAA Division II championships. The Huskies also won the 2012 NCAA Division II Super Region #3 title and set a team record with a 21-0 dual meet record in 2011-12.

Coach Costanzo is now 79-23 in his career.

Intramural Softball Sign Ups Soon

 A captain's meeting will be held March 27 at Halenbeck Hall room 345 regarding Spring 2012 Intramural Softball. Students who would like to play softball need to turn in entry forms by that date. 

Play begins on April 2nd.

SCSU Soccer Releases 2012 Schedule

The St. Cloud State Soccer team released its 2012 schedule Thursday. The season kicks off for SCSU on August 30 vs Northwest Missouri State. The home opener is at 1 pm on September 3 against Southwest Minnesota State from Husky Stadium. NSIC play begins on September 9 for SCSU.

SCSU will look to build off a run to the NSIC Championship game last season and a 11-8-2 record. For the complete 2012 SCSU Soccer schedule, CLICK HERE
