Volleyball Drops A Pair

The SCSU Volleyball team dropped a pair of road matches this weekend with losses to Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Freshman Kellan Flynn led the Huskies in Saturday’s loss to fourth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State. The middle-hitter had two blocks and ten kills in seventeen attempts.

On Sunday the Huskies were defeated in straight sets for a second consecutive match. Freshman Rachel Burke contributed a strong effort with nine kills but the Huskies could not come away with a victory.

The Huskies are back at Halenbeck Hall on Friday and Saturday for a pair of home matches. On Friday SCSU takes on Minnesota-State-Mankato at 7 PM, and on Saturday the Huskies welcome Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday afternoon.

Friday’s match against the Mavericks can be heard on the KVSC Sports Stream.

Soccer Splits Weekend

The Huskies soccer squad split a pair of matches at their home pitch over the weekend as they defeated Sioux Falls 2-0 on Saturday before falling 1-0 against Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday.

Junior Kara Dahmen and Freshman Michelle Cornell each had a goal for the Huskies in Saturday’s victory, while Kenzie Hanzlik and Julia Clifford combined for the shutout in net.

The soccer team is now 2-3 overall in conference play and 3-4-1 overall. The Huskies will take on Wayne State and Augustana in road matches on Saturday and Sunday.

Husky Football Defeats Wayne State

The Huskies’ football team won a road game against Wayne State 24-19 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-2 on the season. Junior running back Michael Walker had another stellar game for SCSU as he rushed for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns to pace the victory.

The Huskies return home to Husky Stadium Saturday night as they host the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs at 6 PM. The Bulldogs are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the NSIC along with Sioux Falls and Minnesota State, each of whom the Huskies have lost to this season.

Wrestling Recruits Ranked Highly

Wrestling USA Magazine has ranked the Huskies 2012 recruiting class as the sixth-best in the nation, and first in the NSIC.

The Huskies ended 2012 with a perfect 21-and-zero dual record and won the NSIC Championship. The new season gets underway with the Red-Black Intra-squad match on November 2nd, which you can hear on KVSC’s sports stream with John Peterson calling all the action.

Husky Cross Country At St Olaf

The SCSU Cross Country team was in Northfield for the weekend at the St Olaf Invitational. The men’s team finished the meet in eighth place, while the women ended up with eleventh place.

The cross country season continues at the University of Minnesota on September 29th.

Husky Volleyball Splits Pair

St. Cloud State’s Volleyball squad split a pair of matches at Halenbeck Hall over the weekend, beginning with a loss Friday against to Minnesota-State Moorhead and ending with a win over Northern State Saturday.


The Huskies are back on the hardwood of Halenbeck Hall Tuesday night as they welcome Minnesota Duluth to town for a match.

Husky Soccer Swept On Weekend

The Husky soccer team had a rough weekend with a pair of road NSIC losses. St Cloud State lost at Upper Iowa 1-0 on Saturday and fell 1-0 at Winona State on Sunday. With the losses the Huskies are now two-three-and-one on the season.

SCSU returns to the pitch at Husky Stadium this weekend for matches against Sioux Falls on Saturday and Southwest Minnesota State Sunday.

Husky Football Falls to MSU

 

The SCSU football team fell to 1-2 on the season with a 25-21 loss Saturday against Minnesota State-Mankato at Husky Stadium in a game heard on KVSC. The Mavericks are undefeated and sit atop the NSIC standings, while the Huskies are in a five-way tie for eighth place.

Huskies junior running back Michael Walker had two touchdowns in the game including a 41-yard reception that gave the Huskies a 7-3 lead early in the first quarter. The teams traded scores throughout the game with the Mavericks taking the lead for good with just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

 The football team hits the road for a matchup with Wayne State Saturday before returning home for a game against Minnesota Duluth on September 29th.

Husky Golf Wins Triangular

The St Cloud State women’s Golf team won the S-C-S-U Triangular this weekend at Wapicada and Territory Golf Clubs.

The Huskies finished one stroke ahead of Bemidji State and Winona State. St Cloud State returns to the links this weekend for a match with Concordia-St Paul in Lake Elmo.

Volleyball 1-3 on Weekend

 

The Huskies Volleyball squad finished a tough weekend at the UNK Runza Fall Classic with a win over Maryville College Saturday. The Huskies had lost their previous three matches in the tournament.

The Huskies fell to the host school, Nebraska-Kearney 3-0 to open the tourney, followed by 3-1 setbacks to Truman State and Minnesota State on Friday before the win Saturday.

SCSU is now 4-4 on the season and is at home for their next three matches beginning with a date with the Dragons of MSU-Moorhead on Friday night.

Husky Soccer Defeats UMD

St Cloud State’s Soccer team was victorious on Sunday at Minnesota Duluth with a 2-1 win. Freshman Caroline Henderson, a Duluth native, scored both Husky goals in the victory.

 
SCSU is now 2-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the NSIC.

The Huskies return to the pitch on Saturday for a matchup with the Peacocks of Upper Iowa.

Football Tackles UIU

 

The St Cloud State Football team bounced back from a season-opening loss with a 45-20 win at Upper Iowa on Saturday night. The Huskies cruised after jumping out to a 20-0 lead and put up over 400 yards of total offense.

Junior running back Michael Walker ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the game for SCSU, while the Huskies were led defensively by Chris Hansen, who had five tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The football team returns home for a huge matchup Saturday night against Minnesota State-Mankato. The Mavericks have started the season 2-0 and currently sit atop the NSIC South Division.

Saturday’s game can be heard live right here on KVSC, with the pregame show beginning at 5:50 pm and kickoff scheduled for six pm.

Volleyball Finishes Strong at UIU

The St Cloud State Volleyball team won a pair of matches Sunday to finish the Upper Iowa Fall Invite with a 3-1 record. The Huskies defeated Lake Superior State once and the South Dakota School of Mines twice in the tournament.

SCSU takes a 3-1 record with them to the Runza Fall Classic in Kearney, Nebraska, which begins September 6th.

Football Looks to Bounce Back

The Huskies fell to the Cougars 32-19 at Husky Stadium in their 2012 season debut Thursday night.

Quarterback Phil Klaphake had 223 yards passing with an interception. He threw for a score and also added a rushing TD in the loss. Junior Jack Moro had a memorable night for SCSU, as he not only punted five times but also added seven tackles and an interception in the game. 

St Cloud State looks to bounce back with a win at Upper Iowa on Saturday night before returning home for a highly anticipated matchup with Minnesota State-Mankato.

Husky Soccer Splits A Pair

 

The St Cloud State Soccer team defeated Minnesota State-Moorhead 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Alex Nemzek Field in Moorhead. SCSU frosh Gabby Fleck scored the game’s first goal with an unassisted tally in the ninth minute of the first half.

Junior Kate Hanzlik capped the Huskies scoring with a goal in the 69th minute. SCSU goaltender Julie Clifford had seven saves in the win.

The squad returned to their home pitch on Monday afternoon but lost 3-1 to Southwest Minnesota State. The Huskies are now 1-1-1 on the season and are back in action at UMD on Sunday.
