Mens Golf Wins Championship

The St. Cloud State men’s golf team finished first at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship golf tournament on Tuesday. The Huskies posted a team score of 624, Augustana placed second with 632. The team has been the runner-up in this event the last three years. The women’s golf team finished in sixth with a score of 732, Augustana finished first with 646. The championship was held at The Classic at Madden’s on Gull Lake.

Volleyball back on the road

The SCSU volleyball squad will be back on the road again this weekend traveling to Wayne, Nebraska and Sioux Falls, S.D. They'll be taking on Wayne State and Augustana College. The Huskies hold a record on 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the NSIC. The team will be in action in Duluth on Tuesday night before returning home again next Friday, October 19.

Huskies Lose Benik To Broken Leg

The SCSU Men’s Hockey team took a big hit less than week before the season begins after freshman Joey Benik broke his leg in the team’s first official practice. Benik, a graduate of St. Francis High School broke his leg early in Saturday morning’s practice while skating with Ben Hanowski and Drew LeBlanc. Last season, Benik played for British Columbia Hockey League’s Penticton Vees, and amassed 114 points in 75 games. Although it is unclear just how much time Benik will miss, his injury will not require surgery.

Husky Mens Hockey Opens at UNH

The St. Cloud State University Men’s Hockey team finally opens their 2012 – 2013-- and final-- WCHA season this weekend against the University of New Hampshire. The Huskies, led by senior captains Ben Hanowski and Drew LeBlanc (Le-BLAH) and alternate captain Nick Jensen, have been selected to finish sixth by the media and fourth by the WCHA coaches in preseason polls. 

Friday’s game at UNH is slated for a 6:30 PM puck drop, and Saturday’s puck drop is scheduled for 6:00. Neither game this weekend will be aired on KVSC, but you can still receive game updates on the KVSC Hockey twitter page by following @KVSCHockey.

SCSU Football Defeats Crookston

www.scsuhuskies.com/roster.aspxThe SCSU football squad took a trip up north and defeated the Crookston Golden Eagles 36-24 on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Huskies to 4-2 on the season.

Huskies quarterback Phil Klaphake connected with junior wideout Eli Shoemaker for a 74-yard touchdown on the game’s first play from scrimmage to set the tone early, as St Cloud took a 27-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Huskies return home this weekend for a matchup with the University of Mary. That game can be heard right here on your sports alternative, KVSC, with kickoff scheduled for 1 PM at Husky Stadium.

Football Team Stuns #2 UMD

The SCSU Football team had perhaps their most memorable win in team history on Saturday night at Husky Stadium. The Huskies defeated #2 Minnesota-Duluth 51-49 on a last-second touchdown pass from Phillip Klaphake running back Michael Walker.

Klaphake was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week Monday morning for his school-record setting 466 yards and five touchdown passes. The junior from Princeton also rushed for a touchdown in the upset victory.

The Huskies are now three-and-two overall and one-and-0 in the NSIC North with a road game scheduled at Crookston Saturday afternoon.

Soccer Hits the Road

The SCSU Soccer team will hit the road again this weekend for a pair of NSIC games. The huskies will travel to Nebraska to take on Wayne State Saturday before taking on Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Sunday.

Football Hosts UMD

The St. Cloud State University Football team will host the University of Minnesota Duluth this Saturday at Husky Stadium. The Huskies are coming into this game after a 24-19 road win at Wayne State last weekend.

Tune in to KVSC for the action Saturday at 5:50 as Scott Gross, Declan Goff and Nyounee Neor bring the action live from Husky Stadium.

Men's Golf takes First

The St. Cloud State University men’s golf team finished first at the Husky Classic, a two-day contest featuring 16 teams that wrapped up Monday at the St. Cloud Country Club. The Huskies finished just three strokes ahead of Minnesota State University Mankato with a team score of 590.

Hockey Teams Ranked In Preseason Polls

The Men’s Husky Hockey team earned votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Division 1 nation poll this week. SCSU gained 15 points while Boston College and Minnesota lead the poll with 476 points each.

Ben Hanowski and Nick Jensen were named to the All- WCHA pre-season team, and The Huskies were picked to finish sixth as a team. The Huskies will open up the season October 12-13 at the University of New Hampshire.

The Women’s Hockey team was picked to finish eighth in the WCHA Coaches Pre-Season Poll. The women’s team will be in action next weekend, October 5th and 6th at Minnesota, KVSC will have coverage of both games.

Swimming and Diving Begins This Weekend

The Swimming and Diving teams will get their seasons underway this week with an Intersquad Meet scheduled at the Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Center on Thursday and Friday.

The Huskies will return many great athletes this season including men’s 2012 Husky Diver of the Year Chris White and women’s 2012 Husky of the Year Stephanie Crandall.

Wrestling To Honor Skala, Merritt

The SCSU Wrestling team will celebrate the careers of Derek Skala and Tad Merritt with a Wall Ceremony on Saturday at the Halenbeck Hall Fieldhouse. Skala won the D2 National Championship in March, while Merritt was named All-American for a fourth time last season.

Skala’s National Championship banner and Merritt’s All-America banner will be unveiled during the ceremony and will be displayed on the wall of the wrestling room.

The Wall Ceremony is free to attend. Those interested in attending are asked to contact the wrestling office at 320-308-3177 by Thursday, September 27th.

Men's, Women's Golf In Action

The men’s golf team sits atop the leaderboard at the Husky Classic after one round of play. Round two is scheduled for today at the St Cloud Country Club. Junior Devin Holmes is the individual leader with a first-round score of 69.

As a team the Huskies enter round two with a seven-stroke lead over Minnesota State-Mankato.

The women’s golf team finished their weekend at the Mustang Invite in Marshall, Minnesota in 13th place. Sophomore Katie Kruchen led the Huskies with a two-round score of 181.
