1.) When did you get involved with 88.1 FM?
I got involved I believe around February of 2012 because of how rad I thought the station was
2.) What show(s) do you currently host on KVSC and what programs have you hosted in the past?
I currently host the Sisters program and it is the only show that I have hosted.
3.) Please list some of the artists and musicians you consider to be a must play on your show(s)?
I’m a big fan of The Gits as well as the Epoxies. I love me some punk rock music and female-fronted punk seems so right. I also like Allison Brown Band for some classy folk and Kimya Dawson because of her authentic low-production sound.
4.) Why are you involved with independent community radio at 88.1 FM?
I love music! When I was a kid I had one of those play radio stations that could broadcast out a signal for about 100 feet. I like the idea of a 70 mile reach instead of 100 feet though.
5.) What is in your personal CD player, iPod, or mp3 right now (BE HONEST)?
Four Year Strong, Green Day, Sublime, Devil Wears Prada, Bach, A Day To Remember, Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, some Caribbean reggae, Bring Me The Horizon, Bach, Rancid, New Found Glory, Bob Dylan, Bouncing Souls, Broadway Calls, Jay Z, and Of Mice & Men. I was raised on a heavy diet or Warped Tour compilations and Green Day.
6.) Please disclose the most embarrassing music moment or concert you’ve attended or album you’ve bought (perhaps even shameful).
It was a 3oh!3 concert. There was many a fourteen-year-old in the crowd. The trauma of poser pop-rap still hasn’t faded from my memory. Oh, and Backstreet Boys was the first CD I ever bought, but I boast about that on the daily.
7.) What are your hobbies and interest?
I run, write poetry and fiction, and record rough tracks on Garageband of my hippy guitar and me…oh and I study because that’s what college is all about: learning and stuff.
8.) When you are not at work or KVSC, where can you most likely be found?
Playing Black Ops with my roommates and talking trash to people half way around the world. Oh the glories of technology.
9.) If it were the end of the world and you could only take five things with you, what would they be (BE HONEST)?
An acoustic guitar, a solar-powered computer/cell phone (they’re practically the same thing nowadays), a comfy bed, a bunch of Subway sandwiches, and a pen and paper.
10.) What do you think is the future of radio?
I think radio will always be around because people will always be in love with the atmosphere radio creates. Sure there are customizable Pandora playlists, but there’s something to be said for a radio station that blares out of your car speakers on a road trip and occasionally cuts out with some FM static. There’s also something to fact that everyone hears the same thing when they tune in to the radio whether it be a classic rock station or a country station or KCLD. Music has a nifty habit of bringing people together. As long as that dynamic is in play, radio will do well.
