1) When did you get involved with 88.1FM?

The fall of 2012!  I wanted to get involved with the station for a long time, but I was always tooo shy.  But after being forced to listen to the same corporate radio station day in and day out at a summer job, I realized that I needed to start spreading good, independent music around – and KVSC, as we all know, is the quintessential outlet for good, independent music!

 2) What show(s) do you currently host on KVSC and what programs have you hosted in the past?

I’m starting out with the Progressive Rock Show, Tuesdays 1-4pm.  I’ve sat in on a few early Morning Shows, and I’d love to do that again.  I’m a big fan of the pre-dawn calm.

3.) Please list some of the artists and musicians you consider to be a must play on your show(s).

Gregory and the Hawk, Burlap Wolf King, Laura Veirs, Alela Diane, and generally a lot of singer-songwriters who may be eclipsed a little bit by the more popular cats.  I like to play music with imaginative lyrics, and I also love to play songs in different languages (gives me a chance to sound fancy and practice my phonetic skills—what can I say?  I’m an English major …).

  4) Why are you involved with independent community radio at 88.1FM?

I think music and musicians are essential to a healthy, open-minded, and I daresay enlightened society.  Music is food: it feeds and stimulates the mind, and those fed on a good diet, I think, are happier and more productive!  Simply put, I feel happy when I discover and listen to good music, and I’d like to share that with others (St. Cloud and beyond!).

 5) What is in your CD player right now (be honest)?

Oh boy, I listen to a lot of music on Youtube.  Here’s what I’ve been listening to lately: Yellow Ostrich, Coeur de Pirate, Sleeping in the Aviary, Jens Lekman, Nicolas Jaar, Ben Lee, Coralie Clément, Chris Garneau, Moon Duo, Gavin Friday, Front 242, Air, Ricky Nelson (uh-huh), Josh Rouse, Manu Chao, Tiga, Opeth, James Iha, Andain, Aghora, Valium Era, Until the Ribbon Breaks, Mac Lethal, Opeth, and of course, Rammstein.

 6) Please disclose the most embarrassing music moment or concert you’ve attended or album you’ve bought (perhaps even shameful)?

When I was a kid living in Texas, I once accompanied my parents to some kind of jazz band concert featuring Wilford Brimley.

 7) What are your hobbies and interests?

I enjoy art (looking at it and making it), reading, baking, and runnin’ around with my almost-two-year-old kidlet.

 8) When you are not at work or at KVSC where can you most likely be found?

The library!  Watching mst3k!  Sitting in my car, eating cereal out of the box (this is a disconcerting habit that I’ve developed in school … the inside of my car is not a pretty place…)!  Going to the International Film Series on campus!  Hugging my aforementioned kidlet!  Ad infinitum!

 9) If it were the end of the world (?) and you could only take five things with you what would they be (be honest):

Hm, I probably wouldn’t take much.  I’d leave it up to providence!  But in the interest of answering the question, I’ll say a nice, big scarf, uh … wool socks (whether or not it’s global warming that’s doing us in), obviously my beloved kin, and, uh … lots and lots of chocolate.  Costco-sized tubs of Nutella and Ferrero Rocher.  Though someone would have to ration that stuff out to me …

 10) What is the most annoying request or listener inquiry you remember receiving?

What?!  I love listener requests and inquiries!  I always get so excited when I see that “incoming call” light flash!

 11)  What do you think is the future of radio?

I don’t know, but I hope for all our sakes it’s still run by wonderful, well-educated, and super-classy humans like the ones already here at KVSC!
