1.) When did you get involved with 88.1 FM?
I got involved DJing at KVSC when I was 11 years old and was listening to KVSC and heard a “promotional” advertising for volunteers at the station. I talked to my dad about it and he took me in to the station so we could go through training together. He and I hosted a show together until I got my own show at 12.
2.) What show(s) do you currently host on KVSC and what programs have you hosted in the past?
I currently host the Thursday Afternoon Progressive Rock Show. I randomly fill in during the school year when I can find time in my schedule (because I have this thing called “high school” that always gets in the way). In the past when I co-hosted with my dad I helped with the Root Cellar, and I also did the Morning Show Part II my first year.
3.) Please list some of the artists and musicians you consider to be a must play on your show(s)?
Passion Pit, Metric, Local Natives, Nada Surf, Gorillaz, James Mercer (either Broken Bells or The Shins), The Decembrists, Mike Doughty, Ben Folds
4.) Why are you involved with independent community radio at 88.1 FM?
I get to expose others (and expose myself) to great artists that otherwise people wouldn’t have known existed. It’s great for preparing me for future jobs. And why would I bother doing it if it weren’t fun?
5.) What is in your personal CD player, iPod, or mp3 right now (BE HONEST)?
I have a 4th Gen. 16 gig. IPod Nano that I carry with my wherever I go. In fact… *checks pockets* I have it on me as I’m typing this.
6.) Please disclose the most embarrassing music moment or concert you’ve attended or album you’ve bought (perhaps even shameful)
The fact that I consistently mix up Neil Young and Willie Nelson, who have absolutely nothing in common. I’m for the most part classic rock deficient (can’t name one Aerosmith song...) excluding The Beatles. For “guilty pleasures” Cascada is pretty tight! I’ve rocked out to ‘Every Time We Touch’ on more than one occasion.
7.) What are your hobbies and interest?
I run Cross Country, Ski, I’m a Black Belt in my Martial Art, I’m on the school speech team, and am interested in a future in politics.
8.) When you are not at work or KVSC, where can you most likely be found?
I can be found at mine or a friend’s home, my cabin, running randomly about the Saint Cloud area, or Barnes and Noble.
9.) If it were the end of the world and you could only take five things with you, what would they be (BE HONEST)?
If it were the end of the world? I thought it was stranded on a desert island. Well. One: My IPod Two: A good book. Three: Su Dokus Four: Running Shoes Five: Espresso Maker?
10.) What do you think is the future of radio?
I think I can tell you what I hope the future of radio will be. I hope people steer more away from Commercialized radio and instead find interests in Public or College radio such as KVSC, The Current, NPR, ect…
