Spring Greetings KVSC members,
This year has already been one of the best years for KVSC radio—and we’re thankful
you’re part of it. KVSC recently had the honor of hosting Holocaust survivor Henry Oertelt at St.
Cloud State University. He told his story of survival to 800 students on campus and a classroom of
students in Fort McMurray, Alberta Canada. You can also hear Dr. Oertelt’s story at KVSC.org,
just click on the podcast link on the left. We also hosted our 29th annual trivia weekend with great
success and delight for competitors, volunteers, alumni and listeners. In early May, we hope to
celebrate our 41st Birthday Bash at the Red Carpet Event Center in St. Cloud—stay tuned for the
details or visit our website.
KVSC’s Spring Membership drive is scheduled for April 19 to April 27. If you can volunteer
to join us as a guest co-host or to take calls with your favorite KVSC announcer, please contact me
at 320-308-3053 or via email at info@kvsc.org. Or, if you have some kind words to share in a
taped testimonial, please let me know. If your letter also contains a membership renewal slip it
means it has been about a year or longer since your last pledge. Your support of independent
public radio at 88.1FM continues our growth and success. You can send your renewal pledge in
the envelope provided or you can pledge on-line anytime at KVSC.org.
Please review the pledge perks we’re featuring for our spring fundraiser. They vary from
our new campfire coffee mug and logo T-shirt (sized for women and men) to a new baseball cap
and fleece vest. We’ll post updated images of the incentives on our website by mid-April. If you
pledged during the Fall 2007 drive and would like a new membership discount card mailed
to you (the current card expires April 30) please contact me and I will gladly send a new
card to you in early May. You will also receive a membership discount card if you pledge this
spring.
We’ve invested your dollars wisely. In the last six months Operations Director Jim Gray
and student engineers finalized a complete overhaul of our broadcast studios. The $70,000 project
replaced failing and old analog audio boards and many other transmission components. KVSC
studios are now a networked digital system; they’re reliable and extremely functional. Member
dollars, state grant money and support from our student finance committee made this overdue
project come to fruition.
KVSC’s Monday Night Live program continues to offer talented local musicians access to
perform on KVSC and UTVS-21 Television. Some of the remaining spring semester performers
include The Keep Aways, First Communion After Party, Sight Like December, Icarus Himself and
North Country Bandits. We’ve posted a schedule at KVSC.org and links to each artist’s website.
Thank you for listening to and supporting the Voice of St. Cloud-KVSC. We’re still the
Independent Public Radio Station of Year in Minnesota; this is an honor that you should take pride
in as well!
Best,
Jo McMullen-Boyer
Station Manager
