Archived: Dad’s Gunfire Injures Son in Hunting Accident

A 14-year-old Melrose boy is injured after being shot accidently by his dad while hunting. It happened Saturday afternoon on land just southeast of Sauk Centre. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says the boy was walking with a friend without weapons through heavy brush while three men in their party were hunting nearby. The sheriff’s office says one of the men, 41-year-old Robert James Gieske of Melrose, saw a deer run out of the brush and fired a shot at the deer, accidently hitting his son. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment of the shotgun wound. He is now in fair condition.
