Men's Hockey Splits with Minnesota
Mikey Eyssimont celebrating after one of his two goals

The SCSU men's hockey team split over the weekend in a home and home series with in-state rival Minnesota.

On Saturday night the Huskies opened strong but it would be the Gophers who'd score first. SCSU trekked on scoring four unanswered goals to help push them to a 5-2 win in the first game of the series. The Huskies were led offensively by Mikey Eyssimont who scored twice and added an assist on SCSU's first goal of the game.

On Sunday down at Minnesota's home rink it was a battle of goaltenders with SCSU's David Hrenak going up against Minnesota's Mat Robson after the regular starter Eric Schierhorn was benched for the game. The Huskies had appeared to break open the scoring in the second period when an Eyssimont wrist shot found the back of the net. After video reviews looking for possible goaltender interference and offside showed no infraction by the Huskies, Minnesota Head Coach Don Lucia challenged for there being too many men on the ice at the time of the goal. After a lengthy discussion the officials would overturn the goal reverted the game back to 0-0. Minutes into the third the Gophers would get on the board and would stay defensively strong against SCSU to lock in a 2-0 victory after an empty net goal.

The Huskies will be back at home this weekend when they host Western Michigan University.
