Taylor Reiss Powers #2 SMSU to 4 Set Victory Over SCSU Volleyball
Clara Krenz

SCSU Volleyball Coach Chad Braegelmann mentioned Southwest Minnesota State Junior Taylor Reiss as a favorite to win the NSIC Player of the Year award.

If Saturday's match was any indication, Reiss certainly looks like she has the honors all but locked up.

The Mustangs Junior obliterated every effort by the Huskies to slow her down, racking up 23 kills and 20 digs on .302 hitting. Reiss had her double-double by the end of the second set, helping SMSU (23-3) cruise past the Huskies (16-12) in 4 sets.

St. Cloud State picked up a thrilling victory in the first set, siding out at better than 70% of their chances, but then watched the Mustangs wake up in the final 3 sets. SMSU hit .281 over the last three sets, leaning on Reiss and Senior Middle Brooke Borchardt. Senior Setter Megan Larson (50 assists/4 kills/10 digs/3 blocks) was certain to feed Borchardt on quick middle sets, helping the dominating middle rack up 11 kills on .280 hitting. Outside hitter Kaylee Burmeister posted a double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs.

The Huskies were led by Senior Nicole Miller, as she posted 11 digs, 4 aces, and a team-high 8 kills. Freshman Setter Maddy Torve posted 20 assists, 2 kills, and an ace, while standout Sophomore Libero Clara Krenz averaged a whopping 8.25 digs per set.

St. Cloud State will close their season on the road this weekend against Wayne State and Augustana, with both matches on the KVSC Sports Stream.
