December 6, 2007
Greetings Captains and Trivia Teams,
Vote Trivia ’08, KVSC’s 29th annual trivia weekend will convene February 8-10, 2008. It’s the political party of the year! Gather up shrewd strategists to prepare for all things political--from a trivial perspective that is. Cast a team poll; ratify your running mates and veto failed campaign ideas. Be prepared to lobby and research historical and current political trivia.
Please share the following trivia platform planks with your teammates, err…your convention delegates.
Here’s the Political Platform for Trivia 2008:
¨Registration News: Early bird trivia team registration and visual trivia will be available starting Monday, December 17 at the KVSC studios. Our offices are typically open Monday-Friday (except major and federal holidays) from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. KVSC will not post the visual images on our website.
¨New for Trivia 2008: We are developing an online forum at KVSC.org for players and fans of trivia weekend. The impetus behind the forum is innocuous—it’s simply a tool to help teams and players communicate with one another. In fact, we’re often asked by people how they can join a team or by teams seeking help looking for more players. The forum is a great method to screen potential new team members, snipe about visual trivia and taunt each other on team strategies and recipes for success (and hotdish).
¨Phone Bank: We hope to staff our trivia telephone phone bank at full capacity. In 2007 we actually set up 24 hotlines and they were staffed nearly the entire 50 hours. This is the maximum amount of lines our current technology and space allows.
¨Poster News: Vote Trivia ’08 posters will be available approximately the first week of January, perhaps even by the end of December. Each team registered receives two copies of the highly collectible posters. You can get a sneak peak at the poster at KVSC.org.
¨UTVS-the University Television System- will broadcast live coverage of trivia weekend, both on local cable in the St. Cloud area and via web streaming. You can find UTVS channel 21 or log onto www.utvs.com for web-stream links of live trivia coverage.
¨Team Numbers: KVSC will contact your campaign headquarters to assign yourteam number on Friday, February 8. We will start calling around 2 p.m. in the afternoon. Please try to have a team representative available for that call Friday afternoon. But, we’ll call back until we reach a strategist at your headquarters.
¨Registration Deadline: The firm deadline to register for Vote Trivia ‘O8 is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 8. The trivia awards ceremony begins at 8 p.m. Sunday, February 11 in the Ritsche Auditorium at SCSU. We’ll deliver the Minnesota Masters of Trivia Traveling Trophy from 2007 champions Pull Start Diesel to the new trivia weekend champions. Don’t forget, the post-trivia celebration continues Sunday night at the Red Carpet Nightclub in downtown St. Cloud with the Shake a Hamster Band.
¨A Bit-O-Trivia Fun Prior to February: KVSC alumnus and long-time player on team Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women, Tim Lyon, has developed an interactive bar trivia game. Teams compete at local venues. Check out Worldtriviatour.com for details on the next competition in Central Minnesota.
Finally, our genuine gratitude is extended to teams that pledge to support KVSC year-round. If your team has considered “passing the hat” to support KVSC’s operations outside of trivia weekend we have an easy process in place. You can click on the Donate link at KVSC.ORG and we’ll get you started on your path to supporting independent public radio year round at 88.1FM.
Cheers,
Jo McMullen-Boyer
Station Manager
