Author to Discuss Round Barns at Stearns History Center
December 11 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
The Stearns History Center is welcoming author John Roscoe to talk about Minnesota’s Round Barns for the Stearns History Museum’s Breakfast Club. Although its popularity did not rise until the 1880s, round barns in the United States date back to the late 18th Century. President George Washington was the first proponent of the round-barn concept on his farm in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Roscoe, who wrote “Minnesota’s Round Barns,” became interested in the structures about 10 years ago when Sartell residents began to inquire about the round barn in town for a historical center. The project to restore it proved to be prohibitively expensive and failed to find financial support. However, it was inspiration for Roscoe, who traveled across Minnesota to document the remaining known barns of this style.
His presentation is at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11 at the Stearns History Museum.
