MLK Community Celebration in Central Minnesota
January 15 - January 17
The MLK Community Celebration is planning the celebration of Dr. King around the theme “Trust and Healing in the Beloved Community.“
Some of the events, which will be virtual, include:
Saturday, Jan. 15, FAMILY – this includes King’s Kids children’s activities, honoring of Dexter R. Stanton Art & Essay Contest winners (there will be an in-person event to be held at the St. Cloud Public Library)
Sunday, Jan. 16, SPIRIT – honoring the rich tradition of the African American church in celebrating the legacy of Reverend King and those who nourished and sustain him in tradition of civil rights and justice.
Monday, Jan. 17, JUSTICE – the featured speaker is Dr. Artika Tyner, educator, author, speaker and social justice advocate at Planting People Growing Justice. A discussion will follow about the Beloved Community and what that meant for Dr. King. The presentation will connect the message to how cross cultural trust can be built and rebuilt in our own community.
