DESCRIPTION:The Stearns History Museum presents a new exhibit\, entitled “Rising to the Crisis: A County Responds to a World in Turmoil.” \nWhat does it mean to strive for the greater good? Rising to the Crisis examines Stearns County’s response to War World II. More than 4\,000 Stearns County residents joined the military\, and people on the home front volunteered for the Red Cross\, collected scrap metal\, and planted Victory Gardens. Also\, view their video on V-Mail and discover the heart-wrenching story of Bernice “Bunny” Feneis and Ervin “Stubbie” Decker. DESCRIPTION:The Whit Gallery is presenting a retrospective on artist Mick Benson. \nAt age 88\, Mick Benson has been contributing to the St. Cloud arts community for decades\, an they are featuring his work as part of an effort from his community and patrons. \nAmong his favorite subjects to paint are historic buildings and he also likes to paint landscapes\, flowers and mundane but fascinating machines from the past\, redolent of history and a vanished life\, such as steam-engine tractors. \nDrawing and painting\, Benson  believes\, helps people to see and to appreciate what is around them in their lives. \nYou can enjoy a retrospective of his life’s work in a series of events from November 1 – 13 at the Whit Gallery\, located on West. SUMMARY:International Film Series at St. Cloud State University
DESCRIPTION:The International Film Series presented by  St. Cloud State University’s Department of Film Studies has returned! \nOn Monday\, Nov. 1st the first film of the series\,  Waltz with Bashir by Ari Folman will be featured. In 1982\, among many Israeli men\, Folman is a 19-year-old soldier in the Lebanon War. Many years later\, in his groundbreaking autobiographical animation film\, he attempts to come to terms with his haunting trauma and piece together his shattered memory. A deeply affecting foray into the horrors and absurdities of wars\,  Waltz with Bashir is also one of the bravest\, most intimate and devastating artistic testimonies of the infamous Shabra and Chatilla massacre. Ultimately; a tale of sacrificed youth\, solidarity and regained identity. \nThe screening begins at 7 p.m. in the Atwood Little Theatre and is free and open to the public. Discussions follow each film in the series. \n  \n

SUMMARY:De-Stress with Pets at SCSU
DESCRIPTION:St. Cloud State University students and staff are invited to De-Stress with Pets. \nStudents will have two opportunities in November to take a break and relax with animals. The Healthy Huskies organization is hosting weekly events where students can make friends with therapy dogs. Spending time with animals has been shown to lower blood pressure and feelings of anxiety.  \nThe dogs that attend these events are so patient and loving\, you can’t help but leave feeling less burdened after spending some time with them. SUMMARY:The Whit Gallery Features Mary Bruno's Art
DESCRIPTION:The Whit Gallery in downtown St. Cloud is now featuring the art of Mary Bruno\, in a retrospective. \nMary Bruno grew up in a small town in Central Minnesota\, she is a printer and learned her love of printing from her Design professor father Don Bruno. Since his passing she has taken over his small letterpress print shop in St. Joseph and expanded\, both physically and figuratively. Mary has an irreverent line of greeting cards and more that is sold nationwide and she teaches the old school tradition of letterpress printing the way her father taught her. \nBruno carves linoleum and hand sets wood and lead type to make posters\, broadsides and anything that she comes up with.
