SUMMARY:The Beautiful Mind Project-Green Day Out
DESCRIPTION:The Beautiful Mind Project\, a St. Cloud-based non-profit organization\, is encouraging people in our area to wear green-colored clothing on Wednesday\, May 19th on what called is “Green Out Day” for mental health awareness. \nMay is Mental Health Awareness Month\, and wearing green on Wednesday\, May 19th is a very visible way to start conversations and to show support for people dealing with mental health issues. \nThe Beautiful Mind Project was created to help prioritize mental health. Through the various programs and events it sponsors\, they aim to change the way our communities treat mental health from both a cultural and clinical perspective. Nearly half of all Americans will suffer from a mental health challenge in their lifetimes\, yet a good number of them will not receive treatment from a mental health professional. \nThe organization partners with mental health providers across Minnesota to provide same and next day appointments for individuals in need of immediate mental health services. \n

SUMMARY:A Walk Together: United Against Sex Trafficking Event
DESCRIPTION:The Central MN Sexual Assault Center is hosting  a “Walk Together\, Unite Against Sex Trafficking” in partnership with the Shear Dynamics Salon. \nAll proceeds from the event will benefit Central MN Sexual Assault Center’s (CMSAC) services to survivors of sex trafficking/exploitation and other forms of sexual violence\, including child sexual abuse. CMSAC services are greatly enhanced by the support communities they serve. \nSt. Cloud has been identified by survivors and local law enforcement as a “training hub” for prostitution in the State of Minnesota. They serve an average of 70-100 victims of commercial sexual exploitation/trafficking each year. Through education\, CMSAC also seeks to impact change in society’s attitudes and institutions that will reduce and ultimately eradicate the incidence of sexual violence. \nSupporting the walk is a way to create a voice for those who do not have a voice in our community.  The event is taking place on Saturday\, September 25 starting at 9 a.m. \n\nRadio: We have a link to more information at KVSC.org\, visit the Area Events page.

SUMMARY:Paramount Theatre Presents 100-Year Old "Way Down East"
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to come see the silent film that opened the Paramount Theatre in St. Cloud in 1921!  At that time the theatre was called the Sherman Theatre. \nCentral Minnesotans gathered in the hundreds to be the first to experience St. Cloud’s grand new theatre on Christmas Eve\, 1921 to watch “Way Down East” by D.W. The Paramount will bring down the big screen for the viewing\, have music like you would have heard back then\, and of course popcorn\, soda and other snacks will be for sale in the lobby. \nThe silent film’s plot:  A naive country girl\, played by Lillian Gish\, is tricked into a sham marriage by a wealthy womanizer\, then must rebuild her life despite the taint of having borne a child out of wedlock. \nThe free screening is Sunday\, October 24th at 3 p.m. at the Paramount Center for the Arts.
