SUMMARY:THE BROKEN SPOKES @ Milk & Honey Ciders
DESCRIPTION:Congratulations\, you have just stumbled upon your next favorite country band.  The Broken Spokes are a beloved Texas traditional country outfit with a name synonymous with country due to the famous Austin honky tonk. Having focused on live shows\, as opposed to aspiring for some sort of national attention\, The Broken Spokes might just be the best band you’ve never heard of. They’re looking to change that with their new album Where I Went Wrong and the country music world\, in Texas and beyond\, is taking notice. \nThere’s magic in how they embrace the true roots of country music\, interpreting them in the modern context with such love and passion that makes the music feel more palpable and alive than with most other country bands.  You can tell right away this is a well-seasoned outfit that’s put in the time honing their craft in honky tonks across Texas\, perfectly illustrating the beauty of the music to the audience in a way that feels vital. The Broken Spokes are the textbook definition of what country music is in its purest form.

SUMMARY:STEARNS COUNTY PACHANGA SOCIETY & THE BROTHERS BURN MOUNTAIN
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps the most amazing thing about the music of the SCPS is that its appeal cuts through both generational and cultural barriers. A cross section of a typical crowd will find people ranging from their 20s to their 70s\, and in terms of culture you’ll find college students/professors from Minnesota and around the world\, long-term local residents\, members of the local Latino community\, and a sizable number of local musicians. The participatory nature of the Pachanga experience is a key part of the energy or synergy that is created between the audience and the players on the stage. A large number (20-50) of people regularly bring their own percussion instruments from home or play those provided by the group. More often than not\, if you’re not playing along with the music coming from the stage\, you’re out there dancing and contributing to the energy that way. Whatever the case\, nearly everyone (regardless of age\, sex\, color\, creed\, nationality\, sexual orientation\, and/or musical tastes) who experiences a Pachanga Society meeting comes away with a smile and a desire to shake their hips\, move their feet\, whoop it up\, and have a good time! \nBased out of Duluth\, MN\, The Brothers Burn Mountain are a soulful\, energetic\, eclectic duo of real-life brothers\, Ryan and Jesse Dermody. They’ve been playing music together everyday as a duo for more than 20 years. They’ve released 10 full-length albums of original music\, and have toured across the country over the years\, though especially in the Midwest\, having played more than 1\,850 live shows. Their sound is a roiling melting pot of so many musical influences\, that it’s hard to describe\, except as energetic and eclectic; with afro-cuban rhythms\, Zappa-esque spontanaeity\, grittiness\, bluesyness\, tenderness\, and a singer-songwriter\, folky flair.

SUMMARY:Imagery Unveiled: A Journey into Artistic Justice at GRRL
DESCRIPTION:Imagery is important. Imagery has been used since humans began to develop as a way to tell and depict messages\, stories\, and ideas about ourselves and the world.  Join local artist Vatsalaa Jha\, and together you will use imagery to talk about the theme of the meeting and take art to a deeper level. We will also try to understand how we can use our own imagination and power to reframe and re-illustrate the imagery to represent a “just” outcome

SUMMARY:Blind Boys of Alabama
DESCRIPTION:The Blind Boys of Alabama have the rare distinction of being recognized around the world as both living legends and modern-day innovators.  They are not just gospel singers borrowing from old traditions; the group helped to define those traditions in 20th century and almost single-handedly created a new gospel sound for the 21st.  Since the original members first sang together as kids at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in the late 1930s (including Jimmy Carter\, who leads the group today)\, the band has persevered through seven decades to become one of the most recognized and decorated roots music groups in the world.

SUMMARY:Mallrats
DESCRIPTION:Remembering the 90’s show on MTV called “Unplugged” may be a bit difficult so that’s why we relive it right here. Let’s go. \nJust like we remember when MTV played music and cut the cord. MTV Unplugged was a television series that showcased the biggest musical artists of the 90s. These musical performances were filmed and recorded in front of small audiences and as the title implies\, the bands played acoustic instruments. The sparse stage set-ups\, subdued lighting\, and acoustic arrangements made for some of the most memorable live performances of the decade. A theater setting is ideal for this presentation. This show will showcase the best of those shows.
