Volunteers Needed for Trivia Weekend: In-Person and Remotely
KVSC is seeking volunteers for the radio station’s 45th annual Trivia Weekend, which is on the air February 16-18, 2024. Trivia Weekend is a central Minnesota winter staple, and we consider it a cabin fever buster! The strength of KVSC’s contest is our volunteers who provide interactive fun for our teams who compete from Minnesota, the Midwest, and globally.
The contest will run for 50 hours this year with homework assignments during the overnight hours from 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. each night to give volunteers a bit of a break.
2024 Features a Hybrid Approach for Trivia Phone Hotline Volunteers
We are offering both in-person volunteer opportunities in the phone bank on campus and remote hotline volunteering from the comfort of your home!
If you join us to volunteer on campus, you must be healthy; please change to a remote volunteer if you do not feel well before Trivia Weekend begins. Safety is our priority for everyone involved in-person. The phone bank stations will be separated by at least 6 feet from one another, and food will be eaten only in hospitality areas separate of the phone hotlines.

Complete this form for In-Person or Remote At Your Home Phone Bank Sign-Up:
Here’s how you sign-up to be either an in-person or remote phone bank volunteer. Our trivia tech wizards need to gather information to prepare for both options. Check back to complete this PRE-CONTEST SIGN-UP closer to the contest. Plan to complete the form by February 9, 2024. For remote volunteers, this lead time gives our training team time to get you prepped for the big weekend! All volunteers will receive further instructions around mid-January.
The following details are for remote and in-person Phone Bank volunteers:
Review the Camp Trivia Phone Hotline hours below. Based on your response to the survey (see link above), we’ll assess your needs to help you be a successful volunteer. It will be very helpful if you can complete the survey and lock in your hours by February 9, 2024, allowing us time to communicate tech support and shift scheduling. Thank you!
KVSC will provide the resources and training needed to be a superstar volunteer, whether here at St. Cloud State University or from the comfort and safety of your own ‘pup tent.’ Whether in-person or remote, if you volunteer 15 hours or more, you qualify to receive a commemorative Camp Trivia T-shirt.
Camp Trivia will be live on the air for 50 hours beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16 and continuing through 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19. Volunteers are needed to help answer the trivia phone hotlines every hour that questions are being read on air!
Below are the phone shift hours, with the first shift from 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Friday. The rest run generally in 3-to-4-hour blocks until Sunday and the conclusion of Camp Trivia. If you’re a first-time in-person volunteer, welcome! Please arrive about 25-30 minutes prior to your first shift to receive on-site training (first floor, Stewart Hall at SCSU). It will take you only a few minutes to find your groove when you go live!

PARKING LOCATIONS FOR VOLUNTEERS:
The parking policies at SCSU no longer allow visitors to park for free in any campus lot. However, you can park for free in H-lot for Trivia Weekend only, all other lots may result in a parking ticket.
H-lot is located between Ruby Cora Webster Hall (formerly Building 51) and Riverview, just south of Stewart Hall. Enter campus by turning onto 8th Street off of 5th Avenue. Follow 8th Street all the way to the end, head up the slight hill at the end of 8th Street (heading east toward the Mississippi River) and you’ve found H-lot. Again, all other lots and spots will be ticketed—or you can pay as you go in timed pay lots or the 4th Avenue Ramp.
As a volunteer for Trivia Weekend, you can expect to answer the phone in 3 to 4 hour shifts as trivia teams call in with their answers. The most needed hours are late night and early morning shifts. No matter when you choose to volunteer, you can expect to have plenty of delicious food to keep your energy up as local businesses cater throughout Trivia Weekend.
Working the Trivia hotline is fun work, and all volunteers are trained on-site before beginning their first shift.
Feel free to call the office during regular business hours Monday-Friday at 320-308-3066 with any questions about volunteering.
