Archived: Former Prison Inmate Will Speak About Prison Reform at SCSU
A former inmate will speak at St. Cloud State University in early April about prison reform.
University spokesman Adam Hammer says Elizer Darris was convicted of second-degree murder in 1999 and now uses public speaking to educate people. Darris was sentenced at 15-years-old and since has earned an associate degree from Inver Hill Community College and an entry-level information technology certification.
Darris made his transition from violent offender to productive prisoner after taking a democratic citizenship class offered by SCSU sociology professor Elizabeth Scheel-Keita.
Darris will speak on Wednesday, April 4 at 1:30 p.m. in the Atwood Theatre.
