A Tuesday night fire in Fairhaven Township ended with a home as a total loss.

Stearns County Sheriff Don Gudmundson says just before 9:30 p.m. officers arrived to the burning home of 66-year-old John Erikson and 60-year-old Deborah Jurgens of South Haven. The east side of the house was fully engulfed in flames. The South Haven and Kimball Fire Departments worked to try and extinguish the fire, but it spread to other parts of the house.

Jurgens said she was on the first floor when she heard a “pop” sound from the garage, Erikson describes the same sound.

The homeowners are grateful to make it out safe. Authorities believe that the home is a total loss, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
