Archived: Business Owner In Big Lake Charged With 17 Counts Of Tax Related Felonies

A Big Lake Business owner has been charged  with 17 tax felonies and allegedly owes $106,000.

According to the Minnesota Department of Revenue 56-year-old Mark Miller of Big Lake, owner of JC’s Body Shop has been charged with four counts of failing to file tax returns, four counts of failing to pay sales tax, and nine counts of making retail sales after his sales tax permit was revoked. He was charged by the Sherburne County Attorney’s Office.

Miller didn’t file sales tax returns or pay sales tax for his business, JC’s Body Shop from April 2013 to December 2016. The department of revenue says that they were in contact with Miller but he failed to file and pay taxes.

The department revoked his sales tax permit in October of 2015 making any sale after that time a felony. Miller knowingly operated his business after and used the sales taxes to pay for business expenses. He allegedly owes more than $106,000 in taxes, penalties, and interest

Each tax-related felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both
