KVSC received updated information on Tuesday evening’s fatal crash. Alcohol was a factor in the accident on Highway 23, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Twenty-nine-year-old Kevin Couch of Milaca was headed west on Highway 23 near Foley just after 6 p.m. Alcohol was in his system when he crossed the center line and crashed head-on into an SUV, driven by 35-year-old Lindsay Cardinal.

She died in the crash and two of her three children were injured. The children’s ages are one, four and five.

Authorities say Couch and his passenger, 24-year-old Nicole Schmidt, had alcohol in their systems at the time of the crash. They are both at North Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.
