Archived: Truck Through Ice Near Richmond Serves As Cautionary Remider

The Stearns County Sheriff’s office is sharing news of a pick-up truck going through the ice as a warning to area ice fisherman.

They were called to Horseshoe Lake, which is in the Chain of Lakes near Richmond shortly afternoon noon Sunday. A 2016 GMC Sierra pick-up truck was submerged in about six feet of water.

The report says that 30-year-old Yang Toua of Columbia Heights was driving and veered off the trail and the pick-up broke through, first with just the tires sinking in. He and a passenger were able to get out safely.

The truck was removed about 6 p.m. Sunday. Sheriff John Sanner is reminding everyone that the recent warm weather has deteriorated the ice conditions on lakes and advises more caution.
