Archived: Sartell Shoplifting Suspect Was Found In A Barrel
A suspect with four felony warrants was arrested on Saturday.
Sartell Police say officers went to Walmart in Sartell just after 11 p.m. for a shoplifting complaint. Before police arrived, a 20-year-old female suspect, Linaya Mathis, left in a vehicle. Officers are familiar with the vehicle and knew that it goes to Shady Oaks Trailer Park on Co. Rd. 120.
When officers arrived, they located the vehicle and were pulling up to it when Mathis ran away. It is believed that Mathis hid in one of the trailers. The trailer owner arrived and allowed police to search inside, but Mathis was not found. Police searched the area found the woman in a 55-gallon barrel. She was not dressed for the weather, since it was -10 degrees outside. Stolen items were also located in the search.
Gold Cross Ambulance took Mathis to the St. Cloud Hospital where she was evaluated. Mathis gave police a false name, and when officers found her real name they discovered four felony arrest warrants out of Stearns, Benton, Morrison, and McLeod County.
Mathis was cleared at the hospital and was taken to Stearns County Jail.
