Archived: Gov. Mark Dayton Proclaims Saturday A Celebration Of Bob Dylan

This weekend, Minnesota will celebrate a music legend from the Iron Range.

The Office of Gov. Mark Dayton says Saturday, Dec. 10, will be proclaimed “Bob Dylan Day” after he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in Oct. The award was announced by the Swedish Academy who praised Dylan for creating “new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

He is the second Minnesotan to win this Noble Prize, and twelfth overall American writer. Novelist Sinclair Lewis, from Sauk Centre, Minn., won in 1930.

Dayton adds, “Bob Dylan was a true son of the Iron Range in his independence, his talent, and his ability to triumph over adversity.”

The governor will visit Hibbing on Saturday, where Dylan was raised and graduated high school in 1959.
