Archived: Jax And Eddie Are New Detector Dogs Serving Stearns County

Two new Shepherd breed dogs have been added to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office K-9 program.

The Sheriff’s Office says Jax and Eddie are certified narcotic detector dogs who will work with Deputies Adam Johnson and Matt Mayers.

The dogs are less than 2-years-old and came from Czechoslovakia. They are expected to serve 6-9 years in program.

Jax and Eddie have already helped seize drugs and make several arrests in the county.

The Sheriff’s Office adds the K-9 unit is made up of Bloodhounds used for tracking missing people and crime suspects, but since illegal drug activity is a continuous problem, detector dogs are needed too.

Donations from community members and businesses support the K-9 program. Expenses such as veterinary check-ups, dog food and education are covered by donations to the Stearns County K-9 Fund.
