Archived: SCSU Will Host The Reading Of A Classic Novel Monday In The Performing Arts Center

St. Cloud State University is one of many universities, regional theatres, and communities who will be reading a very timely stage adaptation of a classic novel.

The newest stage version of the novel “It Can’t Happen Here’,” by Sinclair Lewis, will be read at St. Cloud State Oct. 24. These readings commemorate the 80th anniversary of the novels stage debut.

The novel was written by Lewis in 1935, and follows a man who becomes the United States President by promising to return the country to greatness.

Carol Cooley, organizer of the readings at SCSU, says, “’It Can’t Happen Here’ is so on point with this election, it is equal parts thrilling and appalling. It’s not just pacing the election, its predicting its potential aftermath.”

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Monday on the Performing Arts Center’s Arena Stage at SCSU. Stay tuned to KVSC for a podcast recording of the readings.
