A Columbia Heights man drowned after disappearing underwater at the Quarry Park and Nature Preserve Sunday evening.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they got a call about a missing swimmer just after 6 p.m. Someone disappeared while swimming in the middle of quarry #11, and was found 2 hours later when the sheriff’s office searched the water.

The swimmer was identified as 34-year-old Juan Alberto Morales-Rosas. He was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff John Sanner says the drowning is believed an accident and no foul play is suspected.

Gold Cross Ambulance, and the Waite Park Police and Fire Departments assisted the sheriff’s office.
