Archived: Why Is There Smoke On The Horizon? Answer: Prescribed Burns
Drivers in Stearns, Morrison, Crow Wing and Isanti counties may see smoke from prescribed fires while driving along state highways.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says there will be prescribed fires along Highway 23 near Richmond and Cold Spring, Highway 65 by East Bethel, Highway 371 between Little Falls and Baxter and along the Lake Wobegon Trail between Osakis and Sauk Center.
Drivers should know that the fires are controlled by trained crews from MnDOT and they are used to improve the growth of native vegetation. Traffic should not be affected and all roads and trails will remain open.
