Archived: Court Date Set for 18-Year-Old Shooting Suspect

The St. Cloud man who has been charged with first degree assault and second degree attempted murder for shooting a man three times in north St. Cloud has his first court date set.

Judge Thomas W. Van Hon has scheduled the Court hearing for April 11 at 1:30 p.m. and has set bail for Nathaniel Leon Smith, at $1 million dollars unconditional or $500,000 with conditions. Smith is facing charges from the March 30 shooting of Antoine Dajuan Fair.

Smith fled the scene of the shooting but was later arrested. At first he denied the charges but then admitted to authorities he shot Fair. He claimed that he shot fair in defense and that he only shot him twice in his chest because Fair allegedly charged him.

But Fair’s medical report says that he was shot at least three times. One bullet entered his lower back, the second one entered the back of his neck and was stuck in his jaw, and the third was to the back of his head with the bullet lodged in his brain. Fair had no bullets wounds from the front and is still hospitalized.
