A 33-year-old Sartell man has admitted to authorities that he called in a false report of seeing a man jump off the Sauk Rapids Bridge Sunday afternoon. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Department received the false call around 1:45 p.m.

The caller reported seeing another man jump off the bridge into the Mississippi River. Emergency responders arrived and questioned inconsistencies in the anonymous call—and believed it was a false report. A man has admitted to deputies that he called in the false report to get attention.

He has not been named or charged at this time. The case is being reviewed by the Stearns County Attorney’s Office, he faces gross misdemeanor charges of placing a false emergency call.
