A 44-year-old man was killed after his motorcycle struck a deer Monday evening in Baldwin Township near Princeton.

Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott says Roger Claassen was riding his bike on County Road 2 near the intersection of 124th Street around 7:30 p.m. Witnesses say Claassen hit a deer around 7:30 p.m. and was thrown from his bike.

Witnesses approached the scene to help, but a minivan travelling west swerved off the road to avoid hitting them and struck Claassen that was still on the road.

Baldwin Fire Department crews and Princeton Police officers arrived at the scene and started CPR. They continued their efforts for ten minutes, but Claassen was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported. The name of the second driver was not released as the investigation is still ongoing.
