A 17-year-old has been arrested and police are looking for a known suspect in a burglary that was caught on camera on Saturday, July 18. St. Cloud Police Commander Jeff Oxton says officers assigned to the department’s Campus Area Police Services, or CAPS unit, met with residents of a house, located in the 500 Block of 6th Avenue South.

They learned that at approximately 5:30 a.m. on July 18, while the five residents were sleeping, two unknown men entered the house by forcing open the lock on an exterior door. A 19-year-old resident confronted the suspects on the second floor. They told him they were there for a party. The two men agreed to leave walking back down the stairs out of sight of the resident. One of the suspects left the house immediately, however the second suspect went into a different room and took a 32-inch television. He crawled out a window with the TV.

The renters had their own video surveillance cameras in the house that captured the suspect’s actions, which they turned over to police.

CAPS Investigators were able to identify the suspects in the video. The first suspect, a 17-year-old from St. Cloud, was taken into custody without incident Monday afternoon. He was taken to the Stearns County Jail and is being held on charges of 1st degree burglary. The second suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Jacob Nhial Elijah from St. Cloud, but he has not been found. Elijah has 13 arrests on record dating back to 2012 in Stearns County.
