A St. Cloud man is being held in Benton County Jail on assault charges for hitting his friend in the head with a hammer.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday St. Cloud Police were called to the 500 block of Highway 10 South. Officers were told that 52-year-old Samvang Sam Phrachansiry of St. Cloud hit his friend, a 54-year-old St. Cloud man, in the head with a hammer.

Phrachansiry fled the scene and returned to his home. He was later taken to Benton County Jail where he is facing charges of 2nd degree assault and making terroristic threats.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
