Archived: 28-Year-Old Arrested In St. Cloud After SWAT Team Finds Suspect Hidden In Garage
A 28-year-old man was arrested in St. Cloud after officers found him hiding in a detached garage.
Commander Jeff Oxton says officers received a tip that Lamare Orlando Walker of St. Cloud, who had a felony warrant out for his arrest, was at the 500 block of 9th Avenue North around 6 p.m. Monday. Officers confirmed Walker’s warrant for 1st degree robbery in Stearns County and went to arrest him.
When officers arrived at the scene Walker fled on foot and disappeared at the 500 block of 8th Avenue North. A witness told officers they saw a man scurry into the back yard of a home. The St. Cloud K9 Unit was able to find that Walker had attempted to lock himself inside a detached garage at the home. Oxton adds it is confirmed that Walker did not know the owners of the garage and only entered to hide from police.
The St. Cloud Police Department SWAT Team was called to the scene because Walker is a convicted felon with a criminal history of arrests, and convictions for terroristic threats and aggravated robbery.
Just before 9 p.m. the SWAT team released an irritant chemical gas in the garage and invaded it to find Walker inside. He was arrested and taken to Stearns County Jail where he is waiting court on the felony 1st degree robbery warrant, and new charges of Fleeing Officers on Foot, Burglary and Possession of Marijuana.
No one was injured during the chase.
